PhDr. Karl Tannich
(1883 - 1975) | Archivist |
When he finished at Vienna
university and the Institute für Österreichische
Geschichtsforschung he worked for short period of time in two large
archives. He graduated as a professor of philosophy in 1907. In
1910 he came to the Central archive of Schwarzenberg in Český
Krumlov and directed it in the 1930\'s and 40\'s. From 1923 to 1945
he worked as a district preserver of the National Trust in Český
Krumlov, and from 1919 to 1921 and from 1922 to 1926 he served as
the Mayor of Český Krumlov. On 16 October 1946 he was evacuated to
Germany where he worked as an archivist for some time - now an urn
with his ashes is in Stockholm where Tannich´s daughter lived. Karl
Tannich very carefully equipped the castle
library in Český Krumlov where the library still is up to the
present. He wrote many wide-ranging papers of Český Krumlov (for
instance on the town fortifications, the chapel on Křížová Hill,
the Saint Vitus church). He lived as the archivist at Castle
No. 59 - Little Castle.
