Široká No. 81

Široká no. 81, overview Location:
Široká No. 81

Description of the Building:
No. 81 joins several buildings of an industrial character which are separated from the former burgess brewery by a passage. The buildings are situated on the site of a former outer moat wall, the remains of which have been preserved in the oldest building.

The oldest building of the industrial complex is a one-storey house with a front without articulation (opposite the former brewery malt-kiln). There are barrel vaults with five sectors on the ground floor. Peripheral masonry probably remained from a bastion of the outer town fortification, as we can estimate from the thickness of the ground floor walls. The side wall of the house is set in the line of the former town wall, the thickness of which has been roughly preserved. According to this we can estimate that the bastion used to be closed at the back.

The other buildings in this area are typical examples of industrial buildings built in the time of the industrial revolution at the end of the 19th century. There are two houses built in a line one after another on the place of the former outer moat town wall. The house closer to Kájovská street, as well as the house neighbouring with the back side of the brewery, has one storey with a high hall ground floor. There used to be workshops and an upper floor, providing the base for them. The fronts of both houses are articulated with high industrial windows, finished sometimes with arches set between supporting columns of the outer shell. The roof of the house next to the brewery is covered with shingles.

Architectural and Historical Development:
Nejstarší jednopatrThe oldest one-storey building was probably built in the 17th century. We do not know anything further about its history. Both newer buildings were built at the end of the 19th century, when industry began to rapicly develop in the town. They were rebuilt in the second half of this century for utility purposes.

History of the House Residents:
There are no reliable historical notes about the buildings. They served for technical purposes and so we can not speak about their residency.
