After finishing his studies at the German university in Prague and the Institut für Österreichische Geschichtsforschung in Vienna he worked in several archives of different institutions. In 1866 he came as an archivist to the Schwarzenberg Central Archives in Vienna. In 1874 he graduated with a Doctorate of philosophy. He published his work very often in the magazine called Mitteilungen des Vereines für Geschichte der Deutschen in Böhmen. The works Urkundenbuch des Cistercienserstiftes B. Mariae V. Zu Hohenfurt in Böhmen (Vienna 1865), Urkundenbuch des ehemaligen Cistercienserstiftes Goldenkron in Böhmen (Vienna 1872) are considered to be his fundamental works. These are documentaries of the Vyšší Brod and Zlatá Koruna monasteries. He spent the last years of his life in rehabilitational residence in Italy (TB).
