Jan Bor

(1886 - 1943) Director, dramatist

His surname was Jan Jaroslav Strejček. From 1939 to 1943 he was director of the drama section of the National Theatre in Prague. On a motif of a story by František Kubka he wrote the drama called Zuzana Vojířová (1942). This story tells about the destiny of the lover of Peter Wok von Rosenberg and the resulting drama was very successfully played on the stage of Prague\'s National Theatre. With its symbology of nationalism (the beautiful South Bohemia countryside was paid homage) it strengthened the Czech audience during the time of the German occupation. An opera named Zuzana Vojířová was composed by Jiří Pauer based on the theme of this play.
