Josef Wolf
(1864- 1938) | Photographer |
Josef Wolf was born in
Český Krumlov and upon completing the local secondary school came
to work in Gothard Zimmer´s photographic studio and studied there
from 1881 to 1884. He went to Austria to gain experience, and when
he returned to Český Krumlov in 1891 had a photographic license. He
then established his own photographic studio and made not only
portraits but photographs of the Šumava region with its natural and
cultural sights. In 1897 he was entrusted to capture the atmosphere
during the shooting of a film about the Passion Plays in Hořice. He
supported the tourism of the region and his extended format
photographs (40 x 50 cm) made up a period feature of the hotels and
restaurants in the region. Group wedding photographs were one of
the specialities of his studio. He lived at Parkán
no. 112, had a laboratory and company archives in a house at
Parkán
no. 116, and a shop with postcards at Radniční and Dlouhá
no. 100 streets.
