Josef Wolf

Český Krumlov Castle from Lazebnický bridge, historical photo by Josef Wolf Josef Wolf was born in Český Krumlov and upon completing the local secondary school came to work in Gothard Zimmer´s photographic studio and studied there from 1881 to 1884. He went to Austria to gain experience, and when he returned to Český Krumlov in 1891 had a photographic license. He then established his own photographic studio and made not only portraits but photographs of the Šumava region with its natural and cultural sights. In 1897 he was entrusted to capture the atmosphere during the shooting of a film about the Passion Plays in Hořice. He supported the tourism of the region and his extended format photographs (40 x 50 cm) made up a period feature of the hotels and restaurants in the region. Group wedding photographs were one of the specialities of his studio. He lived at Parkán no. 112, had a laboratory and company archives in a house at Parkán no. 116, and a shop with postcards at Radniční and Dlouhá no. 100 streets.
