Town Chronicles of Český Krumlov

Under the law no. 80/1920 every village had to write its own chronicle and have its own chronicler. An order in council to this law was passed and issued in 1921.

Under this law the villages had to keep the chronicles at their own expenses the main purpose of keeping the chronicles was to record the local history for future generations. A chronicler was to be a man who fully understood his task and wanted to fulfill his work, have the abilities to do it, know local conditions and situations and especially have an understanding of the truth. A chronicler's committee was established to supervise of the work of the chronicler. Supervision of the chronicles was the task of a higher political authority (District council). A district inspector of schools was appointed with the direct inspection of the chronicles.
