František Jakub Prokyš
(1713 - 1791) | Painter |
A Czech painter of late Baroque - Rococo, originally subject to the Martinic family on the Prunéř estates, he was recommended by them to the religious order of Saint Augustine in Třeboň and to prince Josef Adam zu Schwarzenberg to do paintings. Prince Schwarzenberg released him from servitude, and F.J. Prokyš first became an independent wealthy citizen in Třeboň and later on, in the 1760\'s, he became a wealthy citizen in České Budějovice where he was a member of a painters´ guild. Prokyš´ main clients were the Schwarzenbergs and church dignitaries such as P. Franz Kfeller (1726 - 1799) who served in the office of the influential Český Krumlov prelate from 1762, abbot Bohumír Bylanský in the Zlatá Koruna monastery and many others. This is why we meet the works of František Jakub Prokyš so often in the Český Krumlov district.
